Dad & Mom Visit the Windy City

My parents blew in from Florida this past weekend for a little visit. They were originally supposed to fly in Thursday evening but US Air cancelled their flight and could not locate another flight for them until Saturday morning. My mother was in quite a tizzy- BUT they did make it in to Chicago by way of Philadelphia on Saturday around noon- without their luggage! Their connection was switched to a United flight when they rescheduled and for some reason US Air did not get their bags transferred from their Tampa flight! However, their bags were delivered to our front door around 10:30 pm Saturday night. J (sigh!)
We all attended church together on Sunday. Kaitlyn was recognized for her recent graduation from 8th grade along with about 30 others who graduated from 8th grade, high school, or college. She looked so pretty!

After church we headed home and relaxed for a while. That evening Craig grilled steaks, I made a broccoli casserole and Mom made a BLT Pasta Salad which was really yummy! Dad sent Craig on an ice cream run. He LOVES ice cream especially Bryer’s ALL That Caramel.

On Monday we headed out to The Navy Pier. The weather was perfect and with it being a Monday the pier wasn’t too bad. The girls’ stopped at a kiosk in the mall court and made these cute little glitter head bands. It was a neat process and really inexpensive. After we toured the Navy Pier and walked through the stained glass exhibit we headed back to our vehicle ($23 parking for the day! Ouch!).

On our way back we passed Bubba Gump’s a seafood restaurant named from the Forrest Gump movie. As we passed the restaurant I was tickled to see a Forrest Gump impersonator sitting on a bench talking to passersby. Craig promptly took his cue, sat beside Forrest and asked him, “What is life like?” Forrest drawled back in true Gump fashion that, “Mama always said, life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” It was neat! After collapsing in our vehicle we drove Dad and Mom by Lane tech College Prep, Kaitlyn’s new school. Mom went camera wild and photographed Kaitlyn in front of the school from many angles! (Can’t you just see her rolling eyes!?)

We arrived home and ordered Gino’s East, REAL Chicago style pizza, bathed the girls, and collapsed! It was a very nice visit, especially since I haven’t seen them since Izzie’s birth in March of 2006. The only complaint was that is was just too short!
