Destiny Driven Livin'

Proverbs 29:18 states that, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” I like the way The Message Bible states it too, “If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.”

The Word states it simply, clearly and very cut and dry. No mistake about it, if you have no destination, if you cannot see past the moment you are in and you have nothing to strive for, you may as well be dead! If you have no destination you will never leave the place of departure.

A person who has no assignment is only out taking a walk. Having an assignment answers the question, “Where am I headed?” It defines purpose, our whole reason for existing. If you cannot answer this question, chances are, you are simply existing.

Your assignment (or destiny) provides a clear picture of your future. It gives a possibility of what can and should be. It is a destination. If your assignment (destiny) cannot be defined there is a good chance you have yet to discover it. People who have a clear vision of their destiny end up somewhere on purpose. Discovering your assignment or destiny in Christ gives you a glimpse of His possibilities for your life. You may not be able to touch it tangibly YET- but catching a glimpse of what He has in store will drive you to get there if you let it!

When you are driven by your destiny in Christ, you see something that does not yet exist as though it does. Being driven by your destiny in Christ gives you the supernatural ability to see beyond your present circumstances. It won’t matter that you are broke, busted and disgusted TODAY- Why? Because your destiny is future oriented, it is God’s possibilities for you!

According to Bill Hybels, “vision (or your destiny) is a picture of the future that produces PASSION in you.”

When you realize the potential and possibility within you, a passion will be ignited that will catapult you into a land of endless opportunity! It will DRIVE you to begin striving for the fulfillment of your assignment in Him!

Your destiny will always point toward the future. It is a target that beckons and taunts. It pulls at you and dares you to pursue! However, where there is pursuit there must also be desire.

The proof of your desire will be evident in your pursuit. Your pursuit, or your drive will answer the question, “How bad do you want it?” If you want it bad enough, you will be driven by it.

I want to quickly share with you a few steps that will launch you to become driven by the destiny that is within you…

Step Number One:
Dream BIG!

Many times our lives are filled with planning and thinking about issues that will bring very little significance to our lives. However, I want to challenge you not to become so caught up with the small issues of life that you can't take advantage of the important dreams and opportunities God has for you! The destiny you have in Christ will cause you to dream, but when you dream DREAM BIG!

Bernard Shaw said, “I am a dreamer. Some men see things as they are, and ask why; I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?”

Another quote I like is, "If you are hunting rabbits in tiger country, you must keep your eye peeled for tigers, but when you are hunting tigers you can ignore the rabbits." H. Stern

There are plenty of tigers to go around, don't be distracted by the rabbits.

Once you have set your faith on a big dream remember those who don't take chances don't make advances. Even a turtle doesn't get ahead unless he sticks out his neck.

Step Number Two:
Shake Off Your Past

(Luke 9:62 NIV) Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

We live is a society of excuses and victims. Everyone is a victim today! We are victims of our gender, race, genetics, physical abuse, sexual abuse, finances, etc. It is time for us to stop blaming the past for our present failures ! Look forward! Let your future DRIVE you!

(2 Cor 5:17 KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Of course we should always learn from the past but invest your time and energies in the future. It is impossible to drive forward while looking in the rearview mirror. Leave the past behind and pursue what is ahead of you.

I have seen great men and women destroy themselves because they just could't get over their past. We can't change the past but you can go forward and change your future. Be thankful that we serve a God that won't allow our past to dictate our future!

Step Number Three:
Don't Worry!

Fear and worry are the interest you pay in advance for something you may never own.
Worry actually means to strangle or to choke off. When we worry we are strangling the potntial of our destiny.

(Psa 55:22 KJV) Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

When you worry you are diminish the greatness of God in your life! Give your fear to Him, after all He did pay for them!

Step Number Four:
Be Careful Who You Allow to Speak Into Your Life

We need to be very careful about the kind of people we allow to speak into our lives. Our friends should be those who inspire us and celebrate our successes! Our friends stir us up!

(Prov 27:19-20 TLB) A mirror reflects a man's face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses. He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

We become like the people we associate with! Choose your friends wisely! It is better to be alone than to be with the wrong friends.

(Eccl 4:9-10 TLB) Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better. If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he's in trouble.

(Eccl 4:12 TLB) And one standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer; three is even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Amateurs teach amateurs to be amateurs. If you want success you must decide surround yourself with successful people or people going in the same direction you are headed. Associate with those who are going to positively influence your life and stand faithfully with you. Don’t share your dreams, blessings or successes with just anyone. Not everyone will rejoice with you! Beware of dreamstealers. Remember Joseph!

Step Number Five:
Ch-ch-change is Necessary!

When you quit growing and changing in Christ you have made the decision to fail. This is true in every area of our lives. There are three things you should know about the future:

1) It is not going to be like the past.
2) It is not going to be exactly the way we think it's going to be.
3) The rate of change will be faster than we can imagine.

(Isa 42:9 KJV) Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

If you are truly seeking God and your destiny you will be able to know the future in advance and make the necessary adjustments to adapt to the changes. Always be prepared to change.
If you are not changing you are not preparing for the future.

Step Number Six:
If You Know What God Can't Do You Will Know What He Can Do!

1) God cannot lie.
2) God cannot change.
3) God cannot recall our sins after we have asked for forgiveness.
4) God cannot be the author of confusion
5) God cannot leave us or forsake us.
6) God cannot go back on His promises.
7) God cannot revoke His gifts.
8) God cannot be pleased without faith.
9) God cannot be defeated.
10)God cannot be too big for our problems.
11)God cannot be too little for our problems.
12)God cannot break His covenants.
13)God cannot revoke His calling in our lives.
14)God cannot do anything contrary to the scriptures.
15)God cannot give anything to a double-minded man.
16)God cannot be forced into an impossible situation.
17)God cannot ignore the praises of His people.
18)God cannot be our problem.
19)God cannot be late.
20)God cannot be weak.
21)God cannot be against us.
22) God cannot be limited or confined.

If He said it, it WILL come to pass. Walk in it! It is not a matter of IF, it is only a matter of WHEN!

Step Number Seven:
BloomWhere You Are Planted!

God always uses willing vessels. God will use you right where you are today. Don't fret that you are not qualified to be used by God. Remember, God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called!

1)Matthew was a government employee a tax collector who became an apostle.
2) Gideon was a common laborer who became a valiant leaders of men.
3) Jacob was a deceiver who became Israel.
4) Deborah was a housewife who become a judge.
5) Moses was a stutterer who became a deliverer.
6) David was a shepherd boy who became a king.
7) Hoses was a marital failure who prophesied to save Israel.
8) Joseph was a prisoner who became a prime minister.
9) Peter was a fisherman who became the rock.
10) Isaiah was a man of unclean lips who prophesied the birth of Christ.
11) Paul was a persecutor who became the greatest missionary of all.
12) Mary was a unknown virgin who became the mother of Christ.
Bloom where you are planted and see what He will do. Your gift will ALWAYS make room for you as long a you are obedient and diligent in your relationship with Him. God will use you regardless of your present circumstances and he loves you enough not to allow you to remain in your present state. All God needs to use you is YOU!

Remember that God has assigned a TREMENDOUS destiny in you. He desires to do GREAT exploits in and through you! He desires to see the dreams inside of you fulfilled and lives changed as a result of His hand on you. There is GREATNESS inside of you! DREAM BIG and GO FOR IT!

On a final note, I’ll close with a quote from TE Lawrence, this is one of my favorites:

“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find that it was vanity; But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, that they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible”

Let your destiny in Him drive you! Be driven by your destiny in Him!

Lord, I pray that those who read this will be DRIVEN by their DESTINY in You! I declare that the assignment on their lives is alive and that it is a provoking force so that the Word within them and the promises that are theirs may manifest for His glory and fulfill the Great Commission! Amen!
